Hexamethylenetetramine is a white crystalline compound formed from formaldehyde and ammonia. It is widely used as a hardening agent in phenolic and urea-formaldehyde resins, particularly in the production of molded plastics and brake linings.
It is also applied in the rubber industry as a vulcanization accelerator. Its versatility stems from its high nitrogen content, stability, and ability to decompose into formaldehyde under acidic conditions.
