Dimethylformamide (DMF) is a clear, colorless, and highly polar organic solvent. Chemically, it is an amide with the formula C₃H₇NO, characterized by its exceptional ability to dissolve a wide range of polar and nonpolar compounds.
DMF is widely used in the production of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, polymers, and synthetic fibers. It serves as an effective solvent in the manufacture of acrylic fibers and surface coatings.
