Dimethylethanolamine (DMEA) is a clear, colorless liquid with the chemical formula is C₄H₁₁NO.
Dimethylethanolamine is commonly used as an intermediate in the production of surfactants, pharmaceuticals, herbicides, and corrosion inhibitors. It also serves as a pH adjuster and emulsifier. Due to the presence of both an amine and an alcohol functional group, DMEA can be used to produce amines used in epoxy curing agents.
In personal care and cosmetic products, DMEA is used as a neutralizing agent and stabilizer. Industrially, it finds applications in coatings, resins, and as a component in gas treatment solvents.
