Diisopropanolamine
Description
Diisopropanolamine (DIPA) is a colorless to pale yellow, viscous liquid. It is a tertiary alkanolamine formed by the reaction of ammonia and propylene oxide, resulting in a molecule that contains both hydroxyl (-OH) and amine (-NH) functional groups. This dual functionality gives DIPA excellent surfactant, emulsifying, and neutralizing properties.
DIPA is widely used in the formulation of gas treatment chemicals, metalworking fluids, personal care products, and coatings. It also serves as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of surfactants, corrosion inhibitors, and pharmaceuticals. Its is also useful in applications that require pH control and emulsification stability.
