Benzyl Chloride is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid with a sharp, penetrating odor. Structurally, it is the chlorinated derivative of toluene, featuring a benzene ring attached to a chloromethyl group.

This compound is essential in the production of benzyl compounds such as benzyl alcohol, benzyl cyanide, and various plasticizers, dyes, and pharmaceutical ingredients. Its reactivity makes it valuable in the synthesis of agrochemicals, perfumery intermediates, and specialty chemicals. Benzyl Chloride is also used to modify polymers and as a building block for cationic surfactants and phase transfer catalysts.
