Used as an antibiotic and as a solid fuel tablet used for cooking while camping or hiking; used as a preservative in cheeses;  used to test carpets for flame spread by fire-protection laboratories; used in production of phenolic resins and phenolic resin moulding compounds which are used as binders in brake and clutch linings, abrasive products, non-woven textiles, and fireproof materials; used in rubber and textile adhesives, paints and lacquers; used in the photographic industry; used in the production of explosives; corrosion inhibitor; protein modifier; reagent in chemical analysis;  used in the production of deodorants and hair fixers.
